3 steps to wake up energized everyday without alarm

Why do you need to get rid of your alarm?

How do ever know if you have gotten enough sleep if you are going to wake using alarms?

If you need an alarm to wake up then you are definitely not giving your body the amount of sleep and rest it needs.

Lack of sleep has been scientifically associated with tens of diseases including cancer.

So stop using an alarm and live a healthy life while feeling relaxed, energized, and happy.

Here is how you do it.

Step 1: Calculate how many hours of sleep you need

The first thing that you should do is to determine how many hours of sleep does your body need.

For one week do the following:

  • Don't set the alarm.
  • Sleep at the same time, 10 PM for example.
  • Note down the time your slept time and the time you woke.

After you have done this exercise for a couple of days, calculate the average number of hours that you slept every night.

Hold that number for now, you will need it later.

Step 2: Finding your optimal sleeping time

Now that you know the number of sleeping hours that your body needs, calculating the perfect sleeping time becomes a matter of simple maths.

Perfect Sleeping Time = Wake Up Time - Number of sleeping hours

For example, if you need to get up at 6 AM to work every day and you need 8 hours of sleep then you need to go to bed at 10 PM (6 AM - 8 Hours = 10 PM).

Step Three: Establish a habit

Now that you know when to sleep, establish a habit of sleeping at approximately the same time every day.

For the first week or so, keep an alarm just in case. I don't want you to blame me for being late for work or school.

Once you feel confident, ditch the alarm and enjoy the benefits of an alarm-free life.

It is important to stick to your routine on the weekends as well especially in the first two months. Once your body adapts to the new sleeping habits and your body's internal clock has been set, you can go back to enjoying yourself on the weekends.

Tips for better sleep

  • Go to bed when you are tired. You don't have to wait for the exact bedtime. The important thing is to wake up on time not as much when you go to sleep.
  • Give yourself an exciting reason to wake up. It can be anything: an important project, something you want to learn, etc. Just make sure to start off the night before. Accomplish just 1% of what you want to achieve at night and continue in the morning. This small psychological trick works wonders. The hardest part of any project is the first 1%.
  • Avoid naps as much as you can. Naps will disturb your sleep routine.
